Loraine is located almost smack dab in the middle of Keene Township on Illinois Route 110. As of the 2010 Census the population was 313 residents. Let’s say it is between 300 and 400 on a good day.
Loraine got its start as a branch station for the Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Now that railroad is known as the Burlington Northern. The village was platted in 1870.
The village is a farm town with a co-op, local convenience store and a Post Office at 113 N Broad St, Loraine, IL 62349.
Loraine is a small town with residents that all know each other. That has it good points and bad points. But for the most part it is all good. People are close knit, polite, friendly and helpful. Locals are always ready to lend a helping hand. It is what small-town life is all about. The citizens of Loraine have traditional values with a heavy emphasis on church and family. Since Illinois Route 110 runs alongside the village traffic is minimal. Travelers have easy on and off access to the highway.
