A quick look at Mendon Illinois
Illinois is located in the middle northeastern part of Mendon Township. Mendon sits just off Illinois Route 110 which runs just east of town.
Mendon has a population of between 900 and 1000 residents. The last Census in 2010 counted 953 citizens. Mendon as a rural farming community and outside of the village are huge acreages of corn and soybean fields.
The first settler to arrive at the site of Mendon was Col. Martin Shuey. He built the first cabin there in 1829. He arrived with his wife and several children. Those early days the area was still inhabited with native Americans and many wild animals that no longer exist in Illinois to this day.
Mendon was platted in 1833 under the name of Fairfield. But that conflicted with the name of another town name Fairfield so it had to be changed. The early settler that arrived in Mendon were from New England.
Illinois includes some really lovely small towns. Appeal makes a small town in Illinois amazing throughout the year regardless of the time of year. Mendon is one of these towns.
What exactly are the folks in Mendon like? Well most individuals are very friendly. If you stop at someone’s home and request directions, they’ll more than happy to provide to you. And the community is really tight. Almost everyone knows everyone. When a friend dies in the community, everyone attempts to help their friends and family out in some way. The feeling of community is one of the main grounds to live in a small town. The people here always come together as a community and assist each other. It is quite easy to become involved with volunteer service and other types of charitable opportunities.
Folks enjoy spending time all together. Some of the positive aspects of small town life is the fact that everyday people and families do everything together. Quality of life is less complex in a small-sized community. Good quality time is always among easily the most appealing reasons to reside in a small town today. Living in a small town means you may be fortunate enough to experience a wide-open night time sky with a tapestry of stars. In the countryside, or small town, you get to have that each and every nighttime of your life.
One of the great advantages of residing in a small town like Mendon is fresh air. What people residing in large urban places don’t know just how much junk they are inhaling and subjecting their young children to in the city. Smogginess and fumes are a regular part of existence in the city. Not so in the countryside unless you are living beside or down-wind from a hog, poultry farm or a cattle feed lot.
Folks residing in a small town get an upbringing that makes them value history. There is generally some notable architecture to see and treasure. Particularly if it has been revitalized and is being protected. Notably, near Mendon is the Lewis Round Barn next to the Adams County Fairgrounds. See the picture below.
The residents of a small-town like Mendon experience attaining a work life balance is really practical. In a small town, you can make big achievements. You can possibly be a success and make a huge difference here, while in a big city you are just be one more body aiming to make a name for yourself in whatever organization you work at. The drive across town is almost nothing compared with living in the big city with a lot of stop lights and traffic you must to contend with. Here you’re across town in a few minutes at the absolute most.
